Explainable Machine Learning in Human Gait Analysis: A Study on Children With Cerebral Palsy

چکیده
This work investigates the effectiveness of various machine learning (ML) methods in classifying human gait patterns associated with cerebral palsy (CP) and examines clinical relevance learned features using explainability approaches. We trained different ML models, including convolutional neural networks, self-normalizing random forests, decision trees, generated explanations for models. For deep Grad-CAM were aggregated on levels to obtain at decision, class model level. investigate which subsets 3D analysis data are particularly suitable classification CP-related patterns. The results demonstrate superiority kinematic over ground reaction force this task show that traditional approaches such as forests trees achieve better focus more clinically relevant regions compared networks. best configuration, sagittal knee ankle angles a forest, achieved accuracy 93.4 % all four CP classes (crouch gait, apparent equinus, jump true equinus). Deep networks utilized not only but also additional ones their predictions, may provide novel insights into raise new research questions. Trunk Kinematic Analysis during Gait in Cerebral Palsy Children with Crouch Gait Pattern
Background: Deficits in upper body movement have received little attention during gait in cerebral palsy (CP) children with crouch gait pattern (CGP).Objective: Purpose of this research is to describe the correlation of trunk movement with the excessive knee flexion and ankle kinematic in CP children with CGP.Methods: Gait analysis data from 57 limbs of diplegic CP children with CGP and 26 limb...

Cerebral palsy (CP) children present complex and heterogeneous motor disorders that cause gait deviations.Clinical gait analysis (CGA) is needed to identify, understand and support the management of gait deviations in CP. CGA assesses a large amount of quantitative data concerning patients' gait characteristics, such as video, kinematics, kinetics, electromyography and plantar pressure data.Com...
متن کاملDynamic Balance During Gait in Children With Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy Versus Normal Children
Purpose: Cerebral Palsy (CP) can negatively affect dynamic stability in children with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy during walking. This condition results in a high risk of falling. There is limited evidence regarding the dynamic stability of children with Cerebral Palsy. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the dynamic stability of children with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy, compared to ...
متن کاملGait stability in children with Cerebral Palsy.
Children with unilateral Cerebral Palsy (CP) have several gait impairments, amongst which impaired gait stability may be one. We tested whether a newly developed stability measure (the foot placement estimator, FPE) which does not require long data series, can be used to asses gait stability in typically developing (TD) children as well as children with CP. In doing so, we tested the FPE's sens...
متن کاملUpper Limb Hypertonicity in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Review Study on Medical and Rehabilitative Management
Hypertonicity is the most common type of cerebral palsy consists of 85% of the affected children. It has a very complex nature making intervention and management very difficult. This article tries to make reader familiar with various types of intervention and introduce a new intervention process to help clinicians decide better. Literature was reviewed with two criteria including: identifying v...
